The Queen

Something quite different than usual

She lived up to 106 without abdicating
she passed in 2032 on a hot London noon
King Charles took over the throne at 83
he only visited her to spit on her tomb

She lived that long to spite her son
in her last years she was crumbling
a zombie Queen hooked on power
she knew best, all else were rambling

Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely
an old aphorism by Lord Acton maintained
in the case of the Queen it fits like a glove
her son ruled for only five years,
before by Lady Death he was claimed

The Queen remained the longest living monarch
her record of longest reign was never broken
like Ozymandias, King of Kings, she boasted
yet in the same ground as all she turned rotten

A poem about royalty and power by Nikolaos Skordilis.
A less.. royal and far more seductive poem of mine:
